Position Description

Position:	SYSTEMS PROJECT LEADER
Reports To:	APPLICATIONS MANAGER
Direct Reports:	NA
Indirect Reports:
Overall Purpose and Main Objectives:	Plan and lead designated projects and the work of team members to ensure the timely completion of these projects. Make modifications to systems to meet evolving business needs and major enhancements designed to meet future company needs. Projects involve detailed problem solving skills, extensive knowledge of program development, the capabilities of automated systems, and setting and adhering to restrictive time schedules. Work as advocate for system change.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:	1) The ability to identify, analyze and document business requirements, craft test strategies, develop and execute test cases, verify results and coordinate issue resolution on time and on budget. Determine feasibility of project, and the time frame and resources needed to complete the project so that budgets can be established and adhered to. 2) Design, code, test and document program and system changes by establishing appropriate design parameters, coding requirements, testing procedures, and evaluation methods so that all phases of the project are properly dealt with. Demonstrate independent project leadership. 3) Implement changes and monitor results against established performance criteria. Report results to end users and/or appropriate company managers to ensure that changes meet company, manager and end user needs. 4) Document changes and provide training and guidance to end-users so that information is properly recorded for future use, and that all end users achieve maximum use of, and efficiency on, these systems. 5) Assist in resolving problems or requests received through the Help Desk so that the appropriate staff member handles all problems as soon as possible. 6) Assist the Applications Manager in evaluating potential staff additions so that all areas of the candidates work experience are adequately explored before a hiring decision is made. 7) Work with Business Analysts to sell and maintain the viability of change within the company so that projects are more easily completed and accepted by all business units.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Entry:	* Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent business experience * 5 + years experience in the design and development of complex business systems in the Property & Casualty insurance industry * 3 + years of demonstrated experience as a Systems Project Leader * Knowledge of project management methodologies * Proven oral and written communications skills * Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications * Some prior programming experience is a plus
Fully Qualified:	* Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent business experience * 6 + years experience in the design and development of complex business systems in the Property & Casualty insurance industry * 4 + years of demonstrated experience as a Systems Project Leader * Advanced knowledge of workflow analysis and project management methodologies * Knowledge of XML and utilization of web services for integration a plus * Proven oral and written communications skills * Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications * Some prior programming experience is a plus
Physical Requirements:	Normal office environment Employees led as Systems Project Leader: 3 – 6, depending on project requirements Some overnight travel may be required Some nights and weekends required Budget requirements per project
