Position:	Senior Application Architect

Overall Purpose and Main Objectives:	Performs architecture design and implementation roles for the creation of automated systems. Defines technical pathways to achieve integration of disparate systems with transparency to the end-user. Creates and promotes architectural standards for development. Consults with senior level management, system staff and business areas to determine architecture or development methods required and reviews solutions for adherence to architecture standards. Works as a key advisor on technology and methodology issues across multiple projects and platforms while balancing technically elegant solutions with practical timeframes and funding. Utilizes deep technical knowledge to build enduring long-term automation solutions. Works effectively with Alliance partners to influence and collaborate on architecture and application development tools. Must thrive in a small IT shop.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:	1. Research, define scope and prepare recommendations and plans that integrate new technologies into existing infrastructures as a technical integration leader. Utilizes broad based technical skills and experience to develop integration strategies from legacy systems through cutting edge technologies in order to deliver end to end technology solutions for business partners. 2. Provides technology vision to see beyond current automation needs to design pathways from current state to a desired state including plans with comprehensive levels of detail. Works on strategic IT roadmap. 3. Effective at providing technical design support for projects. Handles project assignments related to development initiatives. 4. Strong written and verbal communication skills in creating presentations, coordinating with vendors and problem resolution. The ability to articulate the technically complex into terms that business areas can understand. 5. Ability to coordinate and leverage assets effectively across the corporation. 6. Mentors, instructs and otherwise develops technical staff in areas of new technology and promotes architectural concepts. 7. Reviews proposed systems changes and recommends action compatible with architecture direction. 8. Maintains technical proficiency, including use and knowledge of emerging technologies.
Required Knowledge and Experience: Fully Qualified:	* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems * 5-10 years of technical system integration experience preferably in various fields of expertise. * Senior level of expertise using broad based technologies to provide solutions across varying platforms including but not limited to: databases (DB2, MS SQL Svr); various file structures (XML; VSAM; Sequential, etc.); middleware application products (Websphere, Weblogic); programming (Java, .Net); SOA layers; Content Management solutions; Portals and Business Process Management. * Extensive background in technical system design marrying old and new technologies. * Comfortable with web based security structures and their intersection with application access for distributed automation. * Experience and exposure working directly with independent agencies. * Excellent written and oral communication skills with all levels of management. Strong presentation skills. * Works independently on complex assignments and enjoys being the one to pull it all together. Must be a strong sole contributor. Only application architect on staff, will collaborate with Alliance architects, but be comfortable standing alone. * Strong understanding of the whole organization and key personnel. * Proactively assesses opportunities, results and recommends actions to improve overall success. * Demonstrated ability and eagerness to learn. * Experience in the Property & Casualty industry is desirable. Retail system experience will be considered.
Physical Requirements:	* Normal office environment * Some overnight travel required * Some nights and weekends required for project work * Some off-hours production support or testing required
